So today EA let it be known that they are ending LOU, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lord_of_Ultima
for those who don't know its a great free-to-play, browser-based, massively multiplayer real-time strategy. I love this game!! it has a very active player base there are many servers each with 1000s and 1000s of players..
I hate to see it go, So i come here to see if this community has any interest in building an emulator.
DO IT it will be fun!!!

They get a new game made, everyone's excited, one year after servers are closing and a new games gets on the market.
That's what EA games is doing, i wouldn't see any problem if ultima online stops, because if it do so: we can freely emulate and get something to work correctly, instead of relying to EA games like a dog to his master.
I stopped buying EA games stuffs long time ago.

EA won't pull the plug on UO - no idea why, but Richard Garriot has made several attempts to buy it back from them - they are not interested in selling.*

It's because ultima online is the longest running MMORPG and they don't want to let it go so they can say they own it. That's the only reason, it is just PR/Feather in the cap. The value of the existing Ultima Online as it sits (in the way of a for sale price) is a nominal amount of money, it holds no interest to them in the way of profit or a blip that their stockholders would see as a 'value add' is the other reason, so why would they bother selling it when they can use it as a "We have the oldest running MMORPG in existence, and it makes money". It makes money because they use volunteers to do community events and put practically no money into it.

Ultima Online in the hands of Richard Garriot would make a lot of money in my opinion. Folks at EA look at Tabula Rasa and think probably not so they don't want to take a chance with Richard and let him pilot a new project. (Which is yet another dumb EA move).
