Invisible Clothing and Armor Problem

Whenever I create a new character, everything that is equipped at creation is completely invisible.
I cannot un-equip anything. I know that the items are there because the client tells me that I
already have something in both hands, and I can't equip anything else in that slot. If I do equip something that is not already filled (such as a ring) it is visible and acts as normal.

I am using the latest version of both the server and client.
I have triple checked that both are using the same version of the data files.

Anyone have any ideas?

[viewequip, (on yourself or target player)
select the item you can't see,
and move it on the floor to do whatever you wish with it.
(if you need to know how to remove it)
