OH... and if you have EVER been hardware banned from any FPS game for using hacks/cheats you can bet your life that PB will block you on UO when its implemented as it has a global hardware banning feature.
I think it works like this:
When you run PB you get given a unique number that is generated from your motherboard, graphics card, CPU and so on.
Thats how there global hardware ban system works and how it associates whos who.. i beleive.. well, from what i have read anyway.
PB is also very umm harsh...

If it detects a 'cheat program' your basically banned..
A good step forward in controlling cheats but it will be interesting to see the impact on the Emulation community.

Mind you every PB intergrated game i have played DOES have a 'Enable' toggle for PunkBuster..
This could be something to hope for, for those that have concerns..

I really don't like the idea of having screenshots taken, I want my money back. Oh wait - I didn't pay a buck. Looks like I will not be able to patch feeling save for a long time now.

Obviously you didn't read my post. The problem is according to the PB license they can relay ANYTHING they want including your personal files back to the server. Even if they don't intend to use those files if they ever get hacked (and they have some of their own security vulnerabilities on their front page) then what?jack trades said:

On a side note, would this ONLY be installed if you LOG IN to their server or is it automatically put on you computer? If anyone knows the answer or has an idea that would be great. I know now that I am GLAD I quit OSI now. I guess OSI doesn't know how to fix the bugs but they know how to piss customers off! And paying customers at that! *Wonders how many people will quit now*

frankly i hate cheating online (offline i cheat at whatever whenever i can)
although i cant see punkbuster breaking cheaters on uo most will who want to cheat will go to the non punkbuster servers and most players have already used easyuo to make all of their characters uber wont give a damn about it they already have 6 characters 6x120.
what this surely will do is make damn well sure no new players ever come to uo or players who might want to get another account wont do so.
frankly its stupid to use a program like this when back in the day a gm would check on every report of a cheater now they dont have but a slight fraction of gms they once had so now they have to resort to an auto checker
again this wont make any difference in the to cheat or not to cheat functionality of most must get everything now players.
what this truely is is the older players who dont want new players to break thier ecconomy they already have the top skill and all the money and they sure as heck dont want anyone else to come along and make them loose their precious little gold!

Take a look at this example. They keep lists of each ban and put personal information (username and IP adress) on their website for everyone to see. Very nice if you're unjustly banned.

I think that there is another problem too..... that Razor will have to integrate punkbuster into itself, otherwise will be not possible to use razor together with client / or Client can detect razor as intrusion tool and disable it (same stuff with easy uo & etc.)

well now, that link that you provided is just retarded. i don't see how ANYONE business or not can get away with that crap! i thought your ip address was like your computers social security number. omg the more i read about this, punk buster, the more i get upset with ea and thank them for making me quit! i really am upset because i am not even sure if this is LEGAL! i will however search and search and see if somewhere there is a law that nulls this, then i will post what i find out. there has to be something that says any business or software or program can not post for the public this information. it is not life threatening nor will it change anything about your life. i know states have sex offenders and child molesters on the net so you can search that. but a game cheater?! BIG DEAL! they are too stupid to play the game normally without cheating, just ban them and be done with it. (sorry to those who may read this and fall under this category just dont take offense). i really do think that there is a law to make it so they cannot post. but i hope runuo can find out more about this, because i sure cant. i am studying to be a paralegal so i will search the leagal end of this.

I agree I don't like cheaters either, but I also am very picky about vendors who install software on my machine for me, and even pickier about having programs that report any information from my machine back with out my knowledge of what and when it is submitted. If this comes to pass I have a feeling that EA may see yet another decline in player base... starting with my accounts.

A few comments:
1) I see this incorporation of punkbusters into UO (with the agreement as it stands) yet another attempt to drive away players. I do not play on OSI and haven't since my free first month ended 6-7 years ago. However, IF I did play and EA tried to pull this crap on me, I would quit. I would not allow my system, harddrive, and all my files be compromised in an agreement.
2) I've used EasyUO to set up ellaborate macros occasionally over the years. I have never experienced anyone using it as a cheating tool (unless you consider unattended macroing a cheat). I spent a good deal of time writing macros for myself so I look at it as a kind of smart investment (spend 2 hours writing some code to save myself 20 hours of mindless repetitive clicking and watching (instead in some cases I would watch TV and watch myself macro (but I wouldn't have to click or do anything))).
3) If they do not allow non-punkbuster patches, then I will personally stop patching until someone figures out a secure way around it. But hey who cares? RunUO 2.0 is out and the current client works with it so we're all set!

There are other things you can download and not want any one to know you have done so.
