If you build a project based on RunUO...

GIVE CREDIT WHERE CREDIT IS DUE.

How can you do this you say?

If you host a shard... link back to RunUO.com

Here's the HTML to do it:

Code:
<!-- Runuo Start -->
<center><a href="http://www.runuo.com" target="_blank">
<img src="http://www.runuo.com/images/poweredby.gif" border=0 alt="Powered by RunUO"></a>
</center>
<!-- Runuo End -->

If you build a World of Warcraft Emulator (called WowwoW) based off RunUO just let people know its based off RunUO.

If you don't give credit where credit is due you're scum. Even the Russians that decompiled RunUO gave credit to RunUO.

Give me a damned break WowwoW.

I was disgusted when I first noticed the RunUO within WoWWoW, that was a while back though.. I posted about it here but it's good that you took notice to people blatantly stealing your work.

Yea, that's 100% truth. I couldn't believe how they handled networking,

who cares really. it's the internet. runuo is a free program that freely gives out it's source. When you give out your source, you just lost the right to be mad if someone uses it.

You are a moron.

Sorry, I'm just a bit confused.... Do you mean like if we host a server we need to have some kind of in-game link or something? Or is it supposed to be on our website? Or is this only for stuff that is publicly released based on RunUO like SunUO, RunUO RE, etc.? Sorry if it's a stupid question, I'm just a little unclear.

I'd E-Mail the creator of that quite horribley named WowwoW and start flaming him through the roof for not giving credit prior to being told to.

Well as long as all licence points are fullfilled he's right. So there's no need to get ugly on someone who is telling something that is not realy wrong.
Well Ryans reaction is understandable since hes the creator hand has a personal binding to RunUO. Your reaction is just needless.

Just because it's not 'wrong' doesn't mean you should (or shouldn't, in this case) do it.

We all know that you don't 'have' to give credit and that RunUO is a free and freely distributed software, but the fact still remains, you did not make it. Give credit where credit is due, be respectful of your superiors

Well world would be a much better place if it works like that.

But world is different...
Just because it shouldn't be done is no reason to be unfriendly. That's what I think.

There are some things in this world you shouldn't say, although you are allowed to say them.

Looks like I'll put the Link from Links section to the main page and add the image, not sure what will look better. :D

Ill bet if a few people post something about it on THEIR forums, credit would most likely quickly be given :)

I find it hilarious how people are so anxious and quick to agree with or simply echo anything Ryan says.

I do think that its simply a matter of respect and honor to give credit where its due, but the reality remains that some people have no respect or honor. Those people wont get very far anyway ...

respect your "superiors"? im sorry to break it to ya hitler.. but none of you are better than anyone else.

Just remember Irony will always come to bite you in the ass, im sure EA has some gripes of their own.. if it doesnt go exactly your way, just deal with it.

Look, lets not get into a HUGE friggin argument over legal rights, and what-not. Why bother ... All Ryan is asking for is some friggin recognition for his (and the dev's) work. He does not want people to run off claiming responsibility for something they are not even slightly responsible for, becuase that just identifies you as ... well ..

I'm not sure, and I really don't care :p
But once I feel I'm ready to start a shard, I'll add some recognition to Ryan, and the staff of RunUO :)

*copies the HTML ... saves in folder titled "RunUO Regognition!!" *

It would seem to me only right that if you built a project off the hard work of others you compliment them by using their hard work and you would want to thank them for providing you with the basis of creating your project.

Not giving credit would be like attempting to hide the fact and give the impression you are attempting to make others think you did it all on your own.

The people that created RunUO have created a marvel, it is the strongest backbone for gaming out there and it would seem many people wish they had been smart enough to be in on the project.

They should give credit even if it is open source, it would seem the right thing to do but then again I have morals and some don't.

:cool:
